Program overview
This curriculum equips students with comprehensive training in both clinical and research components of otolaryngology. The Ph.D.Otol. program mandates completion of a thesis suitable for publication. Clinical rotations are offered at multiple facilities including University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview, Minneapolis Veterans Administration Medical Center, Regions Hospital, Minneapolis Children's Hospital, and Hennepin County Medical Center, ensuring diverse clinical training and surgical exposure.
Students can pursue independent research across various specialties such as audiology, auditory neurophysiology, cancer biology, cell biology, chemical senses, clinical epidemiology, education research, electrophysiology, genetics, histochemistry, laryngeal function, mandibular bone studies, microsurgery techniques, morphometric analysis, outcomes studies, psychoacoustics, psychometric evaluation, skin-flap research, temporal bone disorders, tumor immunology, and vestibular system physiology. Program alumni typically pursue careers in academia, scientific investigation, and clinical practice.
Requires an M.D. degree.
Other requirements to be completed before admission:
Doctorate will be completed in conjunction with otolaryngology residency.
