The groundbreaking work of CEMS Professors Amundson, Aris, Carr, Cussler, Schmidt, Smyrl, and their peers laid a foundation of outstanding achievement in catalysis, separations, and reactor technology at Minnesota. Today, eight research teams (Bhan, Cussler, Dauenhauer, McCormick, Neurock, Smyrl, Tsapatsis, Zhang) conduct interdisciplinary studies spanning experimental and computational approaches to uncover reaction pathways, develop novel biological catalysts, engineer nanoporous materials and separation membranes, and implement innovative sustainable methods for manufacturing fuels, medicines, industrial chemicals, and various consumer goods.
