Family Social Science presents a distinctive curriculum that applies social science perspectives and methodologies to understand family dynamics across diverse settings and cultures. Earning a PhD in Family Social Science equips students with comprehensive knowledge in theoretical frameworks, investigative techniques, and practical applications. The academic journey encompasses research and classes spanning the discipline's wide scope, covering areas such as childhood development within family systems, cultural influences on families, economic decision-making in households, generational family studies, coping with trauma and loss, and close family bonds. Through rigorous coursework, research involvement, and close faculty guidance, students develop the skills to make meaningful contributions to the field of Family Science.
Anyone who has or will obtain a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a comparable degree from an officially recognized college or university outside the U.S. may apply for graduate admission.
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.00.
