The production systems specialization offers distinctive and engaging opportunities to develop versatile skills crucial for careers in livestock industries. Students will learn to address challenges in management systems, animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and food quality/safety concerns. Through collaboration between Animal Sciences faculty and experts across the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine, students gain access to a diverse, interdisciplinary team for graduate studies in animal production systems. The program utilizes both university facilities and partner farms statewide. Research areas encompass statistical process control in dairy/swine operations, sustainable low-input systems, dairy crossbreeding, alternative poultry production, animal behavior studies, beef cattle management, and farm-level decision-making processes with environmental and food safety implications across all livestock species.
