Established in 2006 to address increasing needs for excellent degree completion pathways, multidisciplinary studies (MdS) represents the University of Minnesota's dedication to personalized undergraduate education, offering adult learners returning to academics flexible degree programs across multiple colleges. By combining course offerings from nearly all University colleges and departments, students craft either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (BS) degree integrating studies from three out of five interdisciplinary fields. These multidisciplinary study areas encompass applied, technical, and professional disciplines; arts and humanities; communications; history and social sciences; as well as science and health sciences. The MdS program starts with a credit-bearing degree planning seminar where students develop customized degree plans aligned with their career aspirations and personal objectives. Designed specifically for adult learners who've had at least a two-year break in their education and appreciate the benefits of tailored learning, MdS encourages prospective students to join regular monthly information sessions. Program advisors offer comprehensive overviews and assist with initial planning. With expanding online course availability, students may potentially complete their entire MdS degree through digital platforms.
