For thousands of years, humanity's survival has relied on our capacity to interpret and anticipate others' actions. In modern times, both personal and career achievements still hinge on comprehending and forecasting human experiences and conduct. Psychology serves as the scientific exploration of these behaviors and experiences. Given humans' remarkable complexity, psychologists utilize diverse viewpoints, including evolutionary, biological, social, organizational, institutional, and sociocultural approaches. These perspectives shape psychologists' analytical frameworks, spanning from genetic factors to brain physiology, personality traits, individual variations, social dynamics, group affiliations, institutional environments, and cultural contexts. While all liberal arts fields examine human experience, psychology stands apart as a scientific discipline through its specialized concepts for understanding people and its distinctive investigative methodologies.

Our bachelor's degree programs equip students with comprehensive knowledge across psychology's various domains while fostering critical thinking skills applicable in numerous situations. Every psychology student takes three foundational courses: PSY 1001 (Introduction to Psychology) offers a wide-ranging survey of psychological insights about human behavior, PSY 3001W (Introduction to Research Methods) develops skills for creating new knowledge, and PSY 3801 (Introduction to Psychological Measurement and Data Analysis) teaches hypothesis testing through statistical techniques. Students pursue additional courses aligned with their personal interests, gaining lifelong abilities to critically assess psychological information and navigate human behavioral complexities—valuable skills even for those not pursuing scientific careers in psychology.

The B.A. program highlights complementary studies in social sciences, arts, and humanities—such as sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, history, philosophy, and literature—due to their shared focus on human experience. These disciplines, like psychology, examine the thoughts, emotions, and drives that define our humanity, influenced by individual traits, interpersonal relationships, and broader societal factors. For instance, art historians might analyze depictions of women across eras, sociologists study religion or racial dynamics (topics also relevant to psychology), political scientists investigate voting behaviors, while business fields like HR and marketing frequently apply psychological principles. A psychology B.A. offers excellent preparation for diverse careers and advanced studies in fields including psychology, law, business management, human resources, and education—though becoming a professional psychologist requires education beyond the bachelor's level.
