Established in 1930, the Inter-College Program (ICP) reflects the University of Minnesota's dedication to personalized undergraduate learning through cross-college, credit-based degree pathways. By leveraging course offerings from nearly all University colleges and departments, students craft either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (BS) degree that combines substantial coursework from at least two different colleges. BA degrees emphasize liberal arts disciplines like arts, humanities, and social sciences, while also mandating second language proficiency. Typically, students build their degrees by blending two or three academic fields—examples range from sustainability studies and communication to HECUA programs, or combining Carlson School of Management courses with manufacturing operations and applied economics. ICP best serves motivated learners whose academic goals demand both a defined focus and adaptable interdisciplinary study. Prospective students are encouraged to attend weekly info sessions, where advisors offer program overviews and assist with initial planning.
