The Biology, Society, and Environment program (BSE), part of the Department of Geography, Environment, and Society, offers an interdisciplinary biology curriculum within the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). Students in this program enroll in courses spanning biological sciences, environmental studies, and social sciences across the university, often concentrating on either human biology or environmental biology. Unlike other CLA majors, BSE students are not required to complete 18 credits outside their major field. The comprehensive curriculum covers diverse subjects and learning approaches, equipping graduates with strong career prospects and preparation for advanced degree programs. The major allows significant flexibility: students can customize electives around specific academic interests or themes, such as pairing human biology with health policy studies or plant ecology with global sustainability. Some explore evolutionary biology through cultural perspectives, while others structure their coursework to meet prerequisites for healthcare graduate programs.
