We are convinced that strategic planning has the power to transform our world. By employing location-specific and cross-disciplinary methods, effective planning fosters equitable and eco-conscious communities. The MURP program, accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board, offers a comprehensive perspective on urban and regional development. Foundational courses establish core planning principles, while electives from Taubman and other top-tier UM graduate programs allow students to tailor their education. Michigan's graduate programs prioritize cultivating analytical skills, evaluative thinking, and integrative approaches to complex planning challenges. Typically completed in two years (four full-time terms), this program qualifies as a STEM-designated field according to U.S. government standards. STEM designation enables graduates to potentially extend their Optional Practical Training (OPT) from 12 to 36 months, providing valuable post-degree professional experience in their specialization.
This specialization equips future planners to address enduring environmental and societal sustainability in land use. Students develop expertise to enhance decision-making processes regarding land development, particularly in contexts of urban decay and suburban expansion challenges.
