The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program's General Epidemiology (G.E.) concentration focuses on several key areas: study design, data collection and analysis, and interpretation of research results. This track provides foundational training in epidemiological and biostatistical principles, applying them to investigate health and illness patterns across populations. G.E. students explore various epidemiology specialties through coursework, research initiatives, and summer internships. Faculty-led research and internship opportunities span numerous health topics such as cancer, social health factors, infectious diseases (including tuberculosis, influenza, and waterborne illnesses), chronic conditions (like stroke, heart disease, and metabolic disorders), women's reproductive health, climate-related health impacts, microbiome studies, and health disparities among Native American and Arab American communities. The G.E. M.P.H. offers two pathways: a 60-credit option and a 42-credit accelerated program for doctoral degree holders (M.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., Ph.D.). Both pathways equip graduates with essential epidemiological skills for various professional settings. Prospective students typically have undergraduate backgrounds in disciplines ranging from biological sciences and healthcare fields to social sciences and mathematics.
