The University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) offers a three-year Master of Landscape Architecture program tailored for students with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. This program equips graduates to skillfully integrate ecological concepts into sustainable landscape design. The curriculum emphasizes aesthetic principles, cultural awareness, ecosystem dynamics, and social equity in environmental planning. As part of SEAS, students benefit from exceptional interdisciplinary opportunities, working alongside experts and peers in fields ranging from conservation biology and ecological systems to environmental policy, engineering, and economic studies.
Applicants complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
We generally recommend, based on an average of previously admitted students, a GPA of 3.5 (on 4.0 scale). GRE scores must be less than five years old. For international students, we recommend a TOEFL score of 102 or higher to be competitive.
