The Master of Arts in Teaching merges advanced graduate studies with secondary education certification. This program equips graduates to become skilled, compassionate, and thoughtful educators qualified to teach grades 6-12 in their selected subject areas. The MAT stands out as a distinctive master's program, requiring 32 graduate-level credits alongside necessary undergraduate courses to fulfill content major and minor requirements (if selected). Prospective students should ideally hold a degree in a secondary education subject area or have completed a significant portion of coursework for one of the University of Michigan-Dearborn's teaching majors. Upon finishing the program, graduates receive both their master's degree and the faculty's endorsement for the Michigan Secondary Standard Teaching Certificate from the State Board of Education.
