The need for statisticians has never been greater. Statistical analysis and data science play vital roles across applied sciences, commercial enterprises, healthcare, and even common tools and daily activities. As vast quantities of data are generated globally every moment, statisticians at every career stage are essential to interpret this information, measure uncertainties, create innovative techniques, and evaluate their effectiveness.

The University of Michigan consistently ranks among the nation's top ten statistics programs, holding the #4 position in the most recent NRC rankings. Our programs offer rigorous foundational training for both Master's and doctoral candidates, alongside instruction in state-of-the-art contemporary methodologies.

Doctoral candidates pursue diverse thesis topics spanning probability theory, statistical frameworks, computational approaches, machine learning, and cross-disciplinary applications in biosciences, engineering, and social sciences. From their first year, all Ph.D. students engage in research, with most publishing multiple peer-reviewed articles before completing their degrees. Our graduates frequently secure faculty positions at comparable institutions or pursue careers in research laboratories, government agencies, and private sector organizations.
