Alongside our current Ph.D. program concentrating on one national language and literature, we've introduced a new option enabling comparative analysis and research across two East European literary traditions, along with interdisciplinary studies. Students can choose their primary Slavic literature from Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Czech, Polish, Russian, or Ukrainian. The secondary literature may be selected from these same options or another East/Central European literature offered at our institution (such as Yiddish or German). A third element of each student's coursework will involve complementary studies in another academic field (for instance, Art or Architectural History, Film Studies, Comparative Literature, Philosophy, Anthropology, History, or Sociology). In their initial graduate year, students will craft a personalized study plan with faculty guidance, combining these three elements into a unified academic approach for examining their chosen literatures within broader cultural frameworks.
All applicants must have a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
