The Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education program equips students to become scholars, researchers, and leaders in various music education roles, including teacher training, academic research, P-12 instruction and administration, and policy development. This interdisciplinary curriculum leverages faculty expertise from SMTD and other university departments across diverse specializations. Tailored for those pursuing the field's most advanced degree, the PhD involves an intensive five-year academic journey that concludes with the completion of an original dissertation.
Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s or master’s of music education degree to be eligible for admission. They should also have a minimum of four years of teaching experience in elementary or secondary schools prior to entering the program.
