The doctoral program in Combined Education and Psychology is a joint initiative between the School of Education and the Department of Psychology within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to collaborate with professors from both departments, investigating developmental, learning, and motivational processes within educational, familial, and community settings. The curriculum emphasizes cognitive and instructional methods, particularly in core subjects like literacy, mathematics, and science, while also examining the psychological aspects of teaching and learning. This field integrates individual cognitive studies with sociocultural learning theories, frequently incorporating cutting-edge educational technologies to enhance and analyze learning experiences. Research on self-regulation explores the connection between motivation and cognitive growth, with students examining how personal, peer, and classroom factors—including cultural and international viewpoints—affect motivation. The program also addresses strategies for fostering positive academic, social, and psychological growth throughout life, while investigating how at-risk individuals overcome social, cognitive, economic, or psychological challenges to achieve successful adaptation.
