The four-year Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences equips students for technical roles in pharmaceutical research, development, and manufacturing. This program also provides strong foundations for advanced studies in pharmaceutical, medical, and basic sciences, as well as professional degrees in pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, business, and law. While BS students aren't automatically admitted to the PharmD program, and graduates don't qualify for pharmacist licensure, they'll receive comprehensive training in chemistry, mathematics, and biological sciences from UM departments outside the College of Pharmacy. The College of Pharmacy's multidisciplinary faculty delivers specialized courses. Students typically enter the BSPS program after completing about 30 credits aligned with pre-pharmaceutical sciences coursework. The program welcomes transfer applications from freshmen or sophomores at accredited two- or four-year institutions. Transfer details are available on the Admissions Page, with course credits requiring University of Michigan approval to meet prerequisites and degree requirements.
Applicants to the BSPS program are invited to apply as either a transfer student from a college/university other than the University of Michigan or as a cross campus transfer student from within the University of Michigan. This distinction is important as there are different application forms depending on the type of transfer. Applicants must have completed at least one full semester of college courses at an accredited 2-year or 4-year institution. Applications are not accepted from students directly out of high school.
Students interested in the BS program in Pharmaceutical Sciences must apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a transfer applicant.
