The Actuarial Mathematics curriculum offers comprehensive education in the fundamental mathematical principles behind private and social insurance systems, as well as employee benefit programs. The coursework is structured to help students get ready for various professional exams administered by the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Society of Actuaries. Each semester, non-credit preparatory sessions for certain actuarial certification tests are available—consult your academic advisor for scheduling details. Passing some of these exams prior to graduation is highly advisable. Gaining practical experience through summer internships is a vital part of the program, with students urged to secure an internship by the end of their third year. For fulfilling upper-level writing requirements, students should consider enrolling in either Math 422 or 427.
