Human-Centered Engineering Design is an approach that equips engineers with the methodological foundation to investigate, analyze, interpret, and record user requirements, then develop innovative product or process solutions that meet those needs. This discipline systematically assesses the functionality of products or services through rigorous evaluation. As a multidisciplinary domain, it integrates elements of human-focused design, engineering principles, artistic creation, social sciences, and business strategy. The Bachelor of Science in Human-Centered Engineering Design (HCED), administered by the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, responds to the increasing demand for engineers who can apply design methodologies throughout a product's lifecycle while balancing user expectations, technological possibilities, and commercial viability. The HCED program emphasizes collaborative, cyclical, and inventive approaches to problem-solving and system development, prioritizing deep user understanding through empathetic engagement.
