The Biology Program provides eight distinct majors, spanning specializations from cellular and molecular biology to ecology and evolutionary studies. New students at U-M don't need to choose a specific major immediately. Exploring multiple biology courses can help identify which area of biological sciences aligns with your interests. For those pursuing a biology degree, starting prerequisite courses early and consulting with a major advisor during your first or second year is highly advised to develop an academic plan. While General Biology shares similar goals with the Biology major, it's less suited for students aiming for graduate studies in biology, serving better as a preprofessional option. Compared to Biology, General Biology requires fewer credits, less lab work, and includes broader coursework, such as non-science cognate classes.
