The Master of Professional Science (MPS) program equips students for scientific careers across industries, government agencies, and non-profits, where job opportunities are expanding. These degrees were created nationally to meet employer needs for versatile, skilled professionals with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on abilities to tackle environmental challenges and enhance stewardship of natural and cultural assets. Designed for efficiency, the program enables students to finish certain specializations in just 12 months while gaining the practical training required to excel in today's competitive science job market
.The Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management specialization within the MPS program offers comprehensive education in tropical marine ecology principles alongside career-ready practical skills. The theoretical curriculum examines coastal benthic ecosystems found in tropical and subtropical zones globally (including coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forests), with particular attention to conservation challenges. Hands-on training covers field techniques, species identification (vertebrates, invertebrates, algae, and marine plants), GIS applications for shallow marine environments, AAUS-certified scientific diving, and DOI-approved small vessel operation. This specialization provides ideal training for technical roles in marine conservation, ecosystem science, and resource management with various governmental bodies, research institutions, and environmental organizations.
