The Master of Music in Music Therapy program requires 30 graduate credit hours beyond the Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy (or equivalent qualification). Offered by the Frost School of Music, this program caters to professionals who already possess an undergraduate degree in music therapy. It equips students for advanced clinical work while also opening doors to research or academic careers. While all master's candidates receive training for high-level clinical practice, they can choose to focus on either clinical specialization or thesis research.
The program's foundation lies in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT), a research-based clinical framework. NMT applies scientific knowledge about music's effects on brain function and behavior to address neurological, developmental, and medical conditions. This evidence-based approach continues gaining recognition within healthcare fields, enhancing career prospects for program graduates.
