The Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics and Intelligence for Social Impact (DAISI) program cultivates future leaders skilled in gathering, interpreting, and applying data to enhance societal benefits. This flexible, cross-disciplinary initiative prepares University of Michigan graduates with robust data analytics expertise, analytical reasoning abilities, and foundational knowledge spanning education and social sciences including sociology, psychology, earth sciences, and media studies. As modern challenges grow increasingly complex and non-profits seek greater effectiveness, this comprehensive curriculum teaches students not just data gathering and reporting techniques, but crucially, how to interpret findings, identify possible biases, and extract meaningful conclusions for ethical, evidence-based solutions.
Through partnerships across UM departments, participants master essential analytical competencies (such as data acquisition, processing, organization, and interpretation) and industry-standard tools (including Excel, Tableau, statistical programming languages, and AI applications) needed to handle information and present compelling findings for real-world problems. Beyond core requirements, learners can tailor their academic journey by selecting relevant courses from multiple fields. This holistic method enables students to implement both conceptual understanding and practical abilities within their chosen specialization, aligning with their career aspirations.
