Pursuing Art History at the University of Miami allows students to immerse themselves in diverse visual cultures worldwide, guided by passionate faculty and museum experts.
Art History majors start with an extensive overview of global artistic traditions, particularly focusing on European visual heritage. The initial segment explores creations from prehistoric periods through the Middle Ages, while the latter portion examines artistic developments from the Renaissance to contemporary global works.
Following these foundational courses, students progress to advanced art history seminars covering specialized areas such as: African artistic traditions, African-American and Caribbean visual arts, American artistic movements, Classical antiquities, Contemporary creative expressions, Graphic Design evolution, Photography's historical development, Islamic artistic heritage, Latin American creative works, Modernist movements, 19th-century European masterpieces, and Iberian artistic contributions. Upperclassmen can also select from various 400-level specialized courses.
