The Department of Mathematical Sciences provides graduate programs culminating in a Master of Science (M.S.) degree. This program equips students with robust mathematical foundations for professional careers or academic pursuits while enhancing their ability to communicate complex mathematical concepts effectively. It also strengthens qualifications for those considering doctoral studies. Exceptional M.S. candidates may engage in faculty-guided research projects. Students can specialize in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education, with most full-time participants completing the degree within two years or sooner.
Key program goals include: (1) establishing comprehensive expertise in mathematical sciences with emphasis on core knowledge retention; (2) cultivating mathematical research capabilities; and (3) fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and communication proficiency. The curriculum requires successful completion of 33 approved graduate credit hours. The department offers M.S. degrees with concentrations in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Statistics. Participants gain extensive mathematical training, refine their technical communication abilities, and access cross-disciplinary learning opportunities. Most students typically finish the program in two years, often completing it in less time.
