The Accounting Ph.D. specialization aims to cultivate future dedicated scholars and exceptional educators through a vibrant, intellectually engaging setting. This doctoral program equips students for research-focused academic careers at prestigious institutions that value strong teaching capabilities. We provide training in classroom instruction and pedagogical development. Faculty research within the School of Accountancy examines economically significant matters relevant to accounting professionals and business stakeholders, including how financial data influences capital markets and corporate decision-makers.
Mirroring the faculty's research focus, the program consistently prioritizes building research capabilities and scholarly writing proficiency. The target completion timeframe is four years. During seminars, candidates are motivated to establish their dissertation framework early in the first year, collaborating with field specialists. Initial coursework, research workshops, and faculty-guided projects dominate the first two years. Comprehensive exams occur at the third year's start. The final two years involve developing, presenting, and defending the dissertation proposal before completing the final thesis.
