The University of Memphis offers an intensive Ed.D. in Leadership and Policy Studies, tailored for professionals aiming to strengthen their expertise in educational leadership and policy development.
All coursework is delivered through online, asynchronous formats, supplemented by scheduled live virtual sessions (using platforms like Zoom or Teams) for interactive discussions. While dissertation research is self-directed, regular virtual consultations with faculty advisors are essential for degree fulfillment. The curriculum integrates foundational courses in educational leadership theory, policy analysis, and improvement methodologies. Participants will engage deeply with a Problem of Practice (POP) relevant to their professional environment, employing research to address and enhance current educational challenges. This program prepares graduates to assume leadership roles across educational institutions and non-profit organizations, qualifying them for positions ranging from classroom educators to district superintendents and policy coordinators.
A Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree: The applicant must provide an official transcript showing an earned bachelor’s or master’s degree, depending on program requirements. In cases, where a program’s accrediting body allows alternate admissions standards, exceptions may be made. If you are a UofM undergraduate student applying to Graduate School at UofM, you do not need to request that an official transcript be sent to Graduate Admissions. This office has access to your transcript. The degree must have been awarded by an accredited college or university. Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official. Personal copies are not acceptable as official documents.
GPA: The applicant must have earned an acceptable grade point average, typically a minimum of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0, but departments may make exceptions for students whose overall GPA does not adequately reflect their ability to succeed in their chosen field. Deadline for submission of all application material is April 1 for the fall semester, and November 1 for the spring semester.
International students must provide evidence of English Language Proficiency.
