Our doctoral program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies equips graduates for successful careers in university administration, institutional evaluation, policy research, student services, and executive roles such as college presidents, provosts, and vice presidents, especially within Minority Serving Institutions.
The HELPS Ph.D. program at Howard's Graduate School develops future leaders for impactful careers in higher education management. This program also trains graduates to champion policies supporting MSIs. The curriculum focuses on theoretical frameworks and practical skills in university development, community engagement, accreditation processes, diversity initiatives, educational access, current higher education challenges, and ethical leadership. Students participate in exclusive lectures and seminars featuring MSI presidents and senior administrators, gaining valuable perspectives on effective institutional leadership. Doctoral candidates enjoy unique partnerships with prominent higher education policy organizations in Washington, D.C., allowing direct interaction with policymakers, advocates, and professionals to explore the intersection of education policy and institutional practice.
