The BLA Concentration in Race and Ethnic Studies examines race and ethnicity as dynamic social concepts influenced by numerous elements such as work, governance, spirituality, citizenship, identity, and traditions. Students will be guided to investigate racial and ethnic topics through multiple academic lenses while learning about the diverse histories of different communities. Graduates from UMass Lowell will emerge prepared to foster a more compassionate and inclusive world that values and embraces differences.

This interdisciplinary program spans humanities, social sciences, education, and other fields, enhancing critical analysis and investigation abilities central to the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences' foundation. The curriculum aligns with the BLA program's Core Curriculum while addressing key learning objectives including Multicultural Understanding, Civic Engagement and Morality, and Research Competency.
