The Bachelor in Liberal Arts (BLA) program at UMass Lowell takes an interdisciplinary approach to education, preparing students to analyze intricate issues related to the environment, poverty, governance, peace and conflict, education, and other key areas.
Students pick two focus areas (from humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields) and complete at least six courses in each specialization. Potential concentrations range from theatre arts to legal studies and economics (refer to the Approved Concentrations section for full details).
Additionally, students fulfill the Interdisciplinary Focus requirement through selected courses, which integrates their learning. Typically, students enroll in Foundations in Liberal Studies during their second year and complete Capstone in Liberal Studies in their final year.
