UMass Boston's Professional Science Master's in Biotechnology (PSM) is tailored for life sciences professionals aiming to advance their careers. This program focuses on practical skills rather than thesis research, preparing you for leadership roles. Choose a specialization like physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or genetics/genomics, complemented by business courses and a professional internship for real-world experience. Whether you study full-time or part-time, you'll graduate ready to excel in the thriving life sciences industry.
Professional Internship
The internship component enables students to implement their learning in professional settings while building industry connections. As the internship is central to the PSM program, we prioritize applicants who have secured or clearly identified potential host organizations. Many students complete their internship at their current workplace. UMass Boston's Career Services can assist in finding suitable placements if required. Internships must involve technical writing and presentations, concluding with a public seminar and written report following standard scientific presentation formats. These typically include an introduction to the research topic, methodology, findings, and their potential applications. Students should dedicate about 20 hours weekly for one semester (totaling 240 hours) to their internship project.
