Since its establishment in the 1990s, our program has been rooted in principles of social justice and equity. These core values shape every aspect of our program - from curriculum design and faculty research to student admissions and dissertation work.
The Urban Education, Leadership, and Policy Studies Program aims to cultivate thoughtful, committed leaders who use research and practical approaches to enhance urban education. While concentrating on urban school challenges, we acknowledge how these issues connect to broader state, national, and international contexts. We train educational leaders from diverse backgrounds who champion equity in all its dimensions, working toward a fairer society and greater public benefit. Doctoral candidates explore topics aligned with their professional goals as change-oriented leaders, culminating in dissertation research that advances educational transformation.
