The Master of Arts in Art Education at UMass Amherst offers students the chance to enhance their skills as artists, educators, and scholars. Participants can enroll in advanced elective courses across the university as well as at Smith College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Amherst College.
This 36-credit program focuses on in-depth study of art education, studio arts, art history, and pedagogy. The MA in Art Education encourages critical analysis of educational research, school curricula, and professional approaches in PreK-12 institutions, museums, and community settings. The program combines hands-on studio work with art historical study, critical analysis, and research in art education theory. Degree requirements include core art education courses along with advanced electives in Studio Arts, Art History, and Education.
