The Master of Arts in Comparative Literature offers a specialized Translation and Interpreting Studies track. This program requires 33 credit hours. While it's possible to finish in one year by taking 4-5 courses per semester (totaling 27 credits) followed by a summer thesis/final project (6 credits), most students opt for a two-year plan, completing three courses per semester for three semesters before focusing on their thesis/project in the final term. The program mandates proficiency in at least two languages (English can count as one), with advanced skills required in the second language. Additionally, students must complete coursework in a third language at UMass or one of the Five Colleges. Participants will develop both practical translation/interpreting skills and a deep theoretical understanding of the field's cultural significance.
