Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) is a dynamic interdisciplinary field that examines contemporary issues through lenses of gender, class, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, and ability. Students explore obstacles encountered by both marginalized and privileged groups in local and global contexts, while developing practical solutions for diverse communities worldwide.

WGSS challenges conventional perspectives. The program fosters interdisciplinary critical analysis spanning arts, history, political science, family studies, STEM fields, literature, and cultural studies. Our curriculum integrates courses from the department, university, and Five College consortium, leveraging the expertise of distinguished scholars throughout UMass Amherst and neighboring institutions.

WGSS students benefit from exceptional faculty mentorship. With intentionally small class sizes that promote dialogue, the program prioritizes developing essential writing, research, and communication competencies for professional success.
