Artistically inclined college students often seek opportunities to broaden their academic horizons, refining their cognitive and analytical abilities while nurturing their creativity. Pursuing art at the collegiate level channels students' creative impulses, enhances critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, boosts concentration, and equips them for rewarding careers across various fields. Current studies highlight the resilience and strength cultivated through undergraduate art education. Our Bachelor of Arts in Art degree offers comprehensive liberal arts training alongside fundamental skills in diverse artistic mediums. The Studio Arts BA program especially benefits those aiming to combine art with another academic focus through a double major.
Prospective students can enter the Studio Arts BA program directly from high school, or current undergraduates may apply to join during their remaining years at UMass. This interdisciplinary structure allows aspiring artists full freedom to experiment with modern artistic forms. Following foundational coursework in art history and fundamentals, Studio Arts BA candidates progress to intermediate and advanced classes spanning multiple disciplines: Animation, Ceramics, Intermedia, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
