The Bachelor of Arts (BA) program provides a well-rounded liberal arts education, enabling students to blend dance studies with other academic disciplines. The curriculum mandates eight technique courses and fourteen dance theory courses, culminating in a Senior Project. Students can choose from ballet, modern dance, and jazz technique styles. Theoretical coursework covers dance history, choreography, rhythm studies, dance science, and production.
The program aims to develop students' technical skills and theoretical knowledge, giving balanced attention to ballet, modern, and jazz dance forms.
Within both BA and BFA programs, UMass dance students cultivate critical thinking, community involvement, and innovative approaches. These qualities are further enriched through the Five College Dance Department, which expands course options, performance experiences, and professional connections throughout students' academic journey and future careers
