The 21-credit Undergraduate Certificate program welcomes all undergraduate students, offering interdisciplinary studies focused on Latin American and Caribbean societies. This curriculum examines diverse topics including cultural traditions, political systems, social movements, gender studies, artistic expressions, literary works, ethnic identities, and migration patterns. Participants complete four core classes and choose three electives from an approved selection to tailor their academic focus. Language proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or another approved language is required. This certificate enhances Maryland students' academic profile, particularly benefiting those in fields crucial to the state's development like STEAM disciplines, language studies, culturally responsive education, health services, and environmental stewardship. The program cultivates globally aware individuals and develops skilled professionals equipped for careers in international commerce, media relations, ecological research, public service, legal practice, community development, teaching, and creative industries.
