The Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE) program was developed with significant industry collaboration. It addresses systems definition, requirements, specifications, along with design, implementation, and operational aspects. Students can focus on specialized areas such as robotics, cybersecurity, computer and software systems, control systems, manufacturing, transportation or process systems, communications and networking, signal processing, or operations research. Alternatively, students may pursue other specialization areas with their advisor's approval. The program leverages the combined expertise in engineering, computer science, and management from University of Maryland faculty, while utilizing the institution's state-of-the-art resources, including both commercial and open-source model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools. Furthermore, the university's location near Washington, D.C. provides strategic benefits for students pursuing or currently holding positions in federal agencies or their private sector partners. Maryland's local economy also includes firms serving commercial and consumer sectors, including bioscience, healthcare, and information technology industries.
