The graduate program in the Computer Science Department ranks as one of the nation's best, placing in the top ten for public institutions. Students can pursue both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, with nearly all full-time candidates qualifying for financial support through assistantships, fellowships, or grants. The Department excels in research across multiple fields including: artificial intelligence, computer networks and systems, database technologies, programming language development, software engineering practices, computational science, theoretical algorithms, visual computing, geometric processing, computer graphics, user interface design, and computational biology.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
