The Biophysics Program at the Institute for Physical Science and Technology provides Ph.D. programs in Biophysics. It collaborates with both the College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences and the College of Engineering, offering doctoral degrees. The Maryland Biophysics Program focuses on educating graduate students in applying theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches to achieve quantitative understanding of biological systems. In the post-genomic age, advanced tools enable remarkable characterization and manipulation of living organisms. Leveraging these tools effectively for biological, biomedical, and bioengineering research demands interdisciplinary knowledge. Consequently, our program involves faculty from Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Materials Science, and Bioengineering. Students with undergraduate degrees in chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, computational science, or engineering are welcome to join. Given the varied academic backgrounds of our students, we customize the curriculum to meet individual needs.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
