The two-year Master of Arts in Theatre and Performance Studies at TDPS provides a comprehensive foundation focused on research and writing. This M.A. program prepares students for doctoral studies while also benefiting educators and practitioners seeking to deepen their knowledge in the field. TDPS offers both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Theatre and Performance Studies (THPF). The M.A. curriculum strengthens students' practical, historical, and analytical understanding of theatre, preparing them for advanced academic programs or enhancing their teaching qualifications. Priority application deadlines for both M.A. and Ph.D. programs are January 15, with February 1 submissions considered if space permits.
The Ph.D. program in Theatre and Performance Studies takes an interdisciplinary approach, equipping graduates for diverse careers in academia and the arts. Students engage in thorough examinations of Theatre History and Performance Studies, analyzing archival materials, performance texts, cultural practices, and theatrical productions. This program cultivates scholar-practitioners. Candidates without prior theatre degrees (or equivalent) may need to complete preparatory courses before Ph.D. admission.
Applicants must have earned a 4-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. institution, or an equivalent degree earned at a non-U.S. institution with at least a 3.0 GPA.
