The Applied Drama and Theatre for the Young (ADTY) program helps students refine their skills as both performers and teachers. As one of just six similar programs nationwide, ADTY emphasizes the interconnected nature of theatrical artistry, teaching methods, and academic research. Participants draw from diverse disciplines including youth theater, creative drama, applied performance, arts integration, and community-based theater. Our philosophy centers on how theatrical experiences can spark creativity, provoke thought, and enhance education for young people and communities. Through yearly TYA productions, traveling performances, and outreach initiatives, students refine their techniques and explore new artistic approaches. The program also offers collaborations with Interpretative Performance studies, focusing on Boal's methods and prison theater projects, plus ENGAGEEMU initiatives that combine community service with experiences working across different cultures.
