The Department of French and Italian offers Master of Arts (FRIT) and Doctor of Philosophy (FRMS) programs focused on French language, literature, and cultural studies. Our graduate faculty's research covers historical periods ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary times. The French graduate program promotes in-depth exploration of French and Francophone literature, film, cultural studies, and social analysis. Faculty members specialize in every era from the 1500s through modern times.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
