The English Department provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, with notable specializations in early British literature, American literary works, African diaspora studies, postcolonial and transnational literature, digital humanities, feminist and gender theories, as well as composition and rhetoric. Additionally, the department features a Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing (refer to the Creative Writing section). While many graduate students in English Language and Literature pursue careers in academia, others explore opportunities in publishing, corporate and technical writing, administration, and human resources. To support career transitions, the department employs a dedicated Placement Director, and the university maintains a Career Development Center.
