The historic preservation certificate program equips students in related graduate fields (such as American studies, anthropology, history, landscape architecture, urban planning, real estate development, and architecture) at the College Park campus with foundational knowledge in historic preservation, while highlighting its connections to their primary disciplines. The Historic Preservation Program provides a Master of Historic Preservation (MHP) degree, a graduate Certificate, and multiple dual-degree options (combining with Architecture, Urban Planning, Real Estate Development, and Anthropology). The MHP is structured as a two-year, full-time professional program. This 45-credit curriculum features core courses, an internship, an interdisciplinary studio, a capstone project, and diverse electives tailored to individual interests. Applicants should show prior engagement with preservation, though backgrounds may vary. (Part-time enrollment may be permitted in special circumstances.)
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
