Reliability Engineering is a multidisciplinary initiative within the Mechanical Engineering Department. The curriculum and research focus stem from understanding how engineering decisions influence complex systems from initial design through their entire operational lifespan. Students can concentrate in various areas including: Failure Analysis (Root-Cause Investigation, Probability-Based Risk Evaluation, Shared-Failure Mechanisms), System Performance (Operator Support Tools, Human Factor Reliability, Software Dependability), Production Quality (Process Monitoring Statistics, Advanced Manufacturing Techniques), or Material and Component Durability (Microelectronic Systems and Material Science), along with Electronic Component Reliability.
Open to students who have a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics and obtained a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from accredited programs.
