The Department provides graduate programs culminating in a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Behavioral and Community Health or a Doctor of Philosophy in the same field. These programs equip students with specialized skills to apply theoretical concepts in real-world community health settings. The PhD curriculum focuses on training health experts capable of assessing population health needs and conducting research to develop effective health policies and programs. Admission to this highly competitive program is selective. Students gain vital research competencies to meaningfully advance behavioral and community health knowledge through professional and scientific publications.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
