The Plant Science (PLSC) program within the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture (PSLA) features three specialized tracks: Plant Biology, Turf and Golf Course Management, and Urban Forestry. This curriculum blends core scientific studies with hands-on technical training, equipping students for diverse professional paths. Additionally, we provide a Landscape Management minor. PSLA advances the study, stewardship, and design of agricultural, urban, and natural environments, focusing on their interactions with air, water, soil, and living systems. Our work supports environmental sustainability by conserving plant and natural resources while enhancing landscapes through thoughtful planning and design. Through teaching, research, and outreach, we aim to expand both knowledge and skilled professionals capable of addressing sustainability challenges and environmental enhancement at local and global scales.
Urban Forestry focuses on maintaining green infrastructure through tree planting and care in communities, parks, and urban areas, preserving woodlands during development, and enhancing public spaces. The University of Maryland's Urban Forestry Program provides the foundational education for careers in urban forestry or advanced studies in forestry-related fields.
