The Religions of the Ancient Middle East (RAME) major enables students to investigate the diverse spiritual traditions that shaped biblical Israel, ancient Judaism, early Christianity, and Islam's formative years, along with other belief systems thriving from approximately 1200 BCE to 850 CE. Foundation courses require students to complete at least one class examining fundamental questions about religion's evolution or interfaith dynamics, plus two surveys covering distinct regions, cultures, or historical periods. Alongside electives, every student participates in a culminating interdisciplinary seminar, usually during their senior year. Language Track (minimum 36 credits): While language study isn't mandatory for the major, students may opt for an enriched language pathway. This involves six credits of intermediate-level language study within the major, with the expectation of applying these linguistic skills when conducting research for the capstone project.
